The UK social investment market is worth over £200 million and is expected to increase to £1 billion worth of investment by 2016. Trillion Fund already has a base of 14,000 members of whom 5,000 are active funders, so hopes that the raise will provide it with the funds to:  Invest in the technology platform to support a secondary market and peer to peer ISAs  Run an extensive marketing campaign to build awareness and a trusted mainstream  brand to reach 100,000 investors.  Expand the business development team to access £500m of deals p/annum by 2017

Trillion is offering 33% of the business to new investors and is starting with the crowd. Projects that have successfully raised funds on the platform range from Whole Foods co operatives in Edinburgh to solar installations for schools.

The platform’s most recent project – a £1.25m loan for E2energy to refinance installed turbines – attracted more than 250 investors. The conversion rate was high, signalling appetite from investors for the kind of product Trillion offers: one in five investors who watched the offer video and one in three of those who read the offer document invested. Julia Groves, Chief Executive of Trillion Fund, said: “Trillion’s mission is to give as many people as possible access to investment opportunities that support the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.

We have worked hard to keep the ‘crowd’ in crowdfunding, and launching our own raise is just the next step of that campaign. “Our goal is to be raising £500,000,000 a year by 2017 for environmental and social businesses and projects from a base of 100,000 active lenders and investors, so we’re really excited to have the opportunity to offer them the chance to put their money where their mouth is and be part of this journey.
